Is what should be happening for children at this developmental age happening for students in your district?
In Edgecombe County, students throughout the district are receiving targeted instruction to support their development. Throughout the district specific school have added resources they feel are necessary for their particular population, but all students have what they need in order to be successful. The district has programs in place to target reading, math, science, and social students, but select school are in the process receiving trauma sensitive training in order to cope with students who have been afflicted with traumatic issues. I do think that the county’s goal is to train all staff in this measure, but they have decided to pilot the schools with the most disciplinary situations. Through observation, this is the one area where the district has created a gap in equity throughout the schools.

The resources missing in this district seem to center around PBIS. There is no consistency in the way the district monitors/manages behavior. There is no district wide PBIS discipline matrix which allows principal’s to govern their schools in the way they feel most comfortable. Some schools follow the Leader in Me program, while others may ensue basic school wide expectations without following the PBIS protocol.
